Lot 5128 CIVIL WAR MODEL 1864 BURNSIDE SADDLE RING CARBINE.

Cal. 54. S# 16294. 39" overall, 21" barrel, two position rear leaf sight, tall blued steel pinched blade front sight. Conforms to other Civil War carbines of this pattern. This carbine utilized the unique Ambrose Burnside designed "ice cream cone" shaped brass percussion cartridge. This is the standard Model 1864 marked "BURNSIDE PATENT / MODEL OF 1864" on breech & "BURNSIDE RIFLE CO / PROVIDENCE RI" on back action lock. Most guns in this serial range were issued to midwestern cavalry units. CONDITION: very good overall, complete & matching. Strong traces of blue & case colors under stained & lightly rusted metal surfaces, partially struck "CAST STEEL 1864" on barrel. Stocks are sound and well fit, hairline crack, raised grain, crisp pair of inspection cartouches. Mechanically fine, crisp dirty rifled bore. (01-28859/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
